watercolors on panels- Aquabords!

These are all 5x7 inches, which is huge for me! The thing I like most about working on these panels is that they don't need to be framed or put behind glass. As with any new surface it took awhile to get used to them. Can anyone guess who one of my references is for these winter scenes?
The panels come in many sizes. I used a cold wax medium to protect them and seems to working just fine so far. I glued strips of wood to the back, inserted screw eyes and then just needed wire and they are ready to hang!

More color studies

For the dark ones, no masking was used. Just picked up the paint with a clean brush and clear water.

I masked off everything but the birch tree trunks and spattered them with a toothbrush. I've yet to do the others!

Color Studies and can't believe it's been so long

Didn't realize I hadn't posted anything in such a long time. I've been busy working on a new watercolor book- doing the drawings for the drawing section. These will also be in the proposed book (wish me luck with the publisher). This is Cooper Lake. I used white artists tape to mask out the foreground trees. I will also post a finished study so you can see where it can go but for here I was interested in color. I've got more of these but couldn't seem to get them all in one post!
These are 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches. the one on the right is even smaller.

Both done on hot pressed paper. And both on view at The Woodstock Artists Association and Museum!

Thought I'd try the wet on wet technique to render the fuzzy skin on a peach....

I live just a few miles from it and go for walks quite often. It's about 12 miles long and about a mile wide. Best time is at sunset as you probably see from my posts!

Leena asked me how I frame these small paintings- there's a pic on my website joycewashor.wordpres.com of me in front of paintings.Also, I cut the paper before I paint but I often crop them with a mat before framing. I'll have to take a pic of new white frame and post it!

One of the first paintings that my husband and I bought (over 25 years ago) was of the Ashokan Reservoir- not a watercolor, an oil by Barbara Boyd. These are reminiscent of that painting. Inspiration can come from your own collection!
