Sunflowers in Brass Vase

This is how it looked when I stopped yesterday. I've been trying to decide if I should apply another wash to the background. Which makes me ask, are we going to get to the place where artists can get instantaneous feedback? Wish me luck, I'm going to do it. I put liquid frisket around the edges of the petals so I can work fast and save the whites and hopefully most of the petals. And am I getting carried away with the notes? As the king said in that Mozart movie, Amadeus, "There are too many notes, Just tell him to get rid of a couple of notes and the symphony will be great!"

I love the darker background. It really makes the flowers "pop". Beautiful color choice also.

I can't remember where I read it, in your book or in some of your interviews, but you mentioned your notes/information you keep on each of your paintings. Can you explain how you do this and how in depth you are with the information you keep? Thank you Joyce.

I love all the notes...and Mozart's, too! Not too many at all! Linda

Nancy,
I keep a notebook to catalog each painting. I number them, date them, note the size, medium, say which palette I used. And on the margins I note any relevant personal or business info. I just use one line so it's not too deep;just these facts. Now that we have blogs I can add even more to it. I guess the drawback is that I can't get too personal and might not take the time to go back and make notes like I do in the notebook. Also, after a day of painting my mind isn't into the writing. Maybe with watercolors it will be easier to blog more extensively since I don't find it as time consuming and easier on my sitting bones. And if my mind is into book mode i'll use it as a place to roam and get feedback. Thanks. Do you catalog your work?
I could scan one of the pages to show you. I usually bring one into class to encourage students to keep tract of their work.
Thanks for asking Nancy

Thank you Joyce for the information. I do, sort of, keep records of my work. ButI find I am inconsitant with my record keeping. I try one method, then another. I forget to keep some information or lose it. I find a computer is not, for me, the place to keep records. I forget to make back-up copy's. I was using Microsoft Access to keep detailed records. It was great, I could have a picture of the work, who it sold to,their address, where I had shown it, the size, etc. Then my computer, crashed and I no longer had that program only an newer verson and they were not even close to being compatable... so, there is my record keeping sob story.

Do you keep both a computer copy and a hard copy? Yes, it you would great if you would scan a copy of your method for me. Thank you Joyce.

Nancy,
I only keep a hard copy. Maybe i will start a computer copy if I get a backup for my Mac but haven't taken the step yet. I'll post my catalog page soon.
