Pastels and the Complementary Palette

For all the pastelists out there-  Honey Lea Gaydos has translated my three complementary palettes into pastels.  Here is a link to her blog:  Mastering the Mix-Creating Palettes Using Non-Traditional Pastels

As you know I first started in oils and then translated the palettes into watercolor. I also did pencil pastels (hoping they would produce less dust) but even though I love pastels, couldn't handle the dust!

Here are a couple of pastel pencils - small of course!!!

How I Finished a Student's Painting

https://youtu.be/Bqcy5gOUeXU

A common mistake made by beginners is not to include enough (or any) dark values.
I can remember this being the case for myself as well. One of my students was kind enough to be the videographer and let me work on her painting. Hope you enjoy! Comments welcome!

Thanks to my friend (and student and collector) I have a much better title for these series of white pitchers- PRAYER PITCHER ! So here is the second one. I got inspired while teaching a class on how to paint white in shadow and light.
